Anyone who has had the opportunity to see Donnie Lowe perform will undoubtably tell you he is more than just a “House Head.” From an early age, Donnie has always had an obsession with music. “I remember stealing CD’s from my uncle when I was, like 10, years old,” Donnie said. “Some good ones like Westside Connection, Debbie Deb, Dr. Dre and a bunch of Stones and Jimmy Buffet CD’s—I don’t remember my life without music.”
Donnie’s eclectic music style draws on years of immersing himself in a wide array of genres and music communities. He really caught the bug for electronic music again when he moved back to Fort Lauderdale in 2008. “I’ve always loved dance music, seeing that I grew up with it down here. I remember the first time I stepped in the DJ booth, WOW! I fell in love and wanted to learn how to do this!” Picking up the decks in the summer of 2009, Donnie quickly began to learn the basics of DJing, and in no time he was rocking crowds and getting the attention of many of his peers in the industry. “Something inside of me just clicked when I touched the decks for the first time. I picked everything up very quickly and was way ahead of the learning curve. I was lucky to have the opportunities I did but I earned my time as a promoter and developing a good following before I even touched the decks in a nightclub.”
Since then, Donnie has shared the decks with the likes of Joris Voorn, Jamie Jones, Nicole Moudaber, The Martinez Brothers, Danny Tenaglia, Boris, Sander Kleinenberg, Mark Knight, Paul Oakenfold, John Digweed, Patrick Topping, Damian Lazarus, Danny Howells, Denney, Matt Tolfrey, and has played at some of the finest venues South Florida (Space Miami, TRADE Miami, Tree House, The Electric Pickle, Do Not Sit, Gryphon Nightclub, Monarchy WPB and many more), as well has numerous International Gigs (Colombia, Panama, Netherlands, London, Costa Rica, Aruba, Spain and France.) “It’s been such a fun experience so far and I’m just lucky that I have been able to play in places I love, with the guys who got me into djing.” He is also one of the innovators for two, top parties in South Florida: Sunday Social and Picnic for Misfits (both of which he hosted with Brock Lambert). In 2013 Donnie received the Best DJ in Broward and Palm Beach counties award. Exclusive Artist/Producer for Miami based Xima Records and UK-based Midnight Social Recordings.
Today you can often see Donnie at the newest Miami venue, Heart Nightclub Miami, where he plays several times a month and is the go-to Resident for Heart’s now infamous Saturday after hours party with the Humans Alike Team. From chunky hip hop bass lines and synths and percussion from the Miami Bass and Freestyle to Techno, Minimal and Deep House, Donnie is taking the South Florida scene on a funky and melodic ride through House Music. Donnie has also played an integral part in the growth of Miami’s Revolution Radio through his “Revolution In The Club” podcast, airing on Wednesday nights at 11pm on 93.5 in Miami or 104.7 in Broward—don’t worry, if you’re not in Miami you can also listen live on www.revolutionradiomiami.com , or check out his SoundCloud to hear archived episodes.
However, Donnie’s devotion to his craft doesn’t end when his set is over. For much of 2016, he has kept busy during daylight hours in the studio, releasing work under the Younan Music label, as well as new tracks with his friend and long-time collaborator, Michael Gin, for their duo Lost Pieces—a project that has garnered support from all corners of the globe, including John Digweed, Danny Tenaglia, Chris Fortier, Mark Farina, Laurent Garnier, Mark Jenkyns, Denney, Maceo Plex, Carlo Gambino and many more hammering away at the duo’s records. With a string of releases on labels such as Nervous, Younan Music, Xima Records, Midnight Social Recordings and Over Recordings to name a few, the boys are in the right place to go global.
In addition to his success with Lost Pieces, 2016 also marks a new collaborative effort between Donnie and Dan Carraway. With a few top 100 tracks under their belts already (and many more on the way), the duo have been receiving massive support from industry heavy-hitters and fans, promising that they are a group to watch out for!
When he’s not playing to a packed house or grinding out new tracks in the studio, Donnie is working tirelessly as the Label Manager for Younan Music. In less than a year, Donnie has already helped revive and catapult the label to numerous Top 100 Releases, including a Top 10 record on the overall Beatport Top 100.
