Party: Monday Night Jazz Sessions: Tarana (Rick Parker/Ravish Momin)

Monday Jazz Sessions @ Quinn's is excited to present the ground-breaking Tarana, a duo featuring Rick Parker on trombone and synthesizer and Ravish Momin on drums and electronics. Tarana blurs the boundaries between the electronic and the acoustic, while blending a vast array of influences, ranging from "Jazz to Juke to Disco to Bollywood" and much else besides.

There is no cover charge but donations for the musicians will be requested. Detailed biographies of the artists follow below. Other concerts as part of the Monday jazz sessions @ Quinn’s for 2014 include:

October 27: Eric Person & Shinnosuke Takahashi "Duoscope" — the esteemed Hudson Valley saxophonist Person —veteran of ensembles like World Saxophone Quartet and alongside Dave Holland, McCoy Tyner, Chico Hamilton, Ronald Shannon Jackson, John Hicks and many others groups under his own leadership — brings his new project featuring young lion Takahashi on percussion into Quinn's;

November 17: Kendra Shank/John Stowell — the extraordinarily talented and accomplished duo of vocalist Shank and guitarist Stowell — following their appearances at Roulette in Brooklyn, The Falcon and other venues worldwide — bring their celebrated project to Quinn’s;

November 24: Mario Pavone Arc Quartet — the legendary bassist Pavone, veteran of many noted ensembles over the five decades of his career — ranging from Paul Bley to Anthony Braxton to Thomas Chapin and countless others — is joined by the powerhouse ensemble of Ellery Eskelin on tenor saxophone, Dave Ballou on trumpet and Matt Wilson on drums;

December 22: Avram Fefer Trio — the scalding saxophonist leads a trio with Michael Bisio on bass and drums TBA

Ravish Momin started writing poetry when he was 8 years old. His love for the sciences simultaneously led him to obtain a B.Sc in Civil/Environmental Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University in the US. He has studied drumset with master-drummers Andrew Cyrille, Bob Moses, and Ian Froman. He has also studied North Indian Classical percussion with Misha Masud, a disciple of Pandit Taranth Rao.

His musical influences are extremely diverse and eclectic, keeping with his philosophy of continually adding sounds and ideas to his musical palette. Even though his ideas are fundamentally seated in the Indian musical traditions, he ultimately hope to be able to seamlessly combine all those musical ideas to create a sound/identity that is totally unique, that is him in totality. That is the challenge, and the lifetime dedication to the process of listening and reacting.

Ravish has performed with such artists as: Shakira, Greg Heffernan, Skye Steele, Kalaparusha Maurice McIntyre, Sam Bardfeld, Sabir Mateen, Peter Epstein, Billy Bang, Jason Kao Hwang, Is What ?, Fulton Lights, Raphe Malik, Tanya Kalmanovitch, Ursel Schlicht, William Connell, Steve Swell, Akim Funk Buddha, Sunny Jain, Brandon Terzic, Shanir Ezra Blumenkranz, Jane Wang, Adam Lane, Kevin Shea, Trina Basu, and many others.
